About Me
Kaye MORGAN-ANSTEE
I took my first dancing steps at around 3 years of age in a large village hall in Surbiton, Surrey. I can still remember the distinct dusty smell and the fact that the teacher seemed extremely old (I guess everyone is when you’re 3) and she didn’t smile very much either ! So serious.. That was my first dance class experience, and it truly could of put me off ever pursuing a career in Dance. I danced every day, dressing up in Mums net petticoats and tip toeing around to the Nutcracker.
My earlier years were spent in my Dance Training in Classical Ballet, Modern Theatre Dance and Tap. I loved it all, maybe the examinations not so much but that really is just additional practice to perfect your dance techniques to the highest standard possible, especially training under the I.S.T.D examiners. I really felt my happiest dancing days were in performances, I loved the stage during the ‘production/show years’ – I loved the freedom, lights, excitement and the fabulous costumes!
I have been extremely honoured to be trained and mentored in my opinion by the best in this industry – Firstly Pat Dean a beautiful former ‘Tiller Girl’ and a Fellow Member of the I.S.T.D, alongside Margaret Parry an I.S.T.D Examiner. I also danced part-time at Laine Theatre Arts, so Betty Laine also played a part in my learning and development.
Dancing and learning with all the I.S.T.D examiners who are teaching at the top of their profession. Sharing their knowledge to the younger generation of dancers and are extremely particular about technique. This guides you every day to be the best dancer for the stage and then later on the best dance teacher you can be. This extensive training over many years put me in good stead for when I furthered my career and began teaching my own dance classes in Fitness, Ballet, Modern Dance and Tap back in the 1980’s, in my mid twenties.
Fitness classes had became very popular during this time with the introduction of Aerobics. And yes, I was part of this new lycra world where leg warmers of any colour were compulsory !
Over the next few years I continued to teach all aspects of Dance at Pat Deans School of Dance in Surrey and I also qualified as a Personal Trainer and Gym Instructor. I predominantly instructed in London, teaching at Danceworks, Pineapple and Flames Fitness & Dance Clubs every evening to name just a few, gaining more experience in Group Exercise instruction, These were very happy days for me and I have fabulous memories of all the studios, dancers and fellow instructors who have shared their dance journeys with me.
The studying always continues and it is something I have embraced and really enjoyed so to increase my knowledge of the Body’s Psychology I studied a P.E.A certification. I also continue to learn today as I’m studying a further qualification in Dance Movement Psychotherapy.
After many fulfilling years in London I moved and resettled my family in the South West in Somerset. I continued my passion for everything Dance by establishing ‘KMA Dance’ 24 years ago.
I have always felt that anyone can learn how to move to music if they are given the right opportunities and great consistent teaching.
Believing that no matter how young or old you are and that we all deserve the chance to simply give ‘dance’ a go…was the thinking behind the creation of Feet & Beat Dance Fitness.
From here with my extensive Dance knowledge in the industry and having taught thousands of students and classes over the many years I developed the very successful After-School Dance Clubs for this exact purpose – Dance for everyone.
Weekly after school classes for children to enjoy the fun aspects of music and movement with their friends in a familiar friendly environment. After the year of classes all the students from local schools where we teach are brought together to dance their routines at dance festivals and local theatre performances. It really gives the students the insight of ‘life as a dancer’. I am very proud that over my years of inspiring the younger generation, including my own sons that many have grown up and moved onto pursue a life in dance.
Our Dance Students range from the age of 5 – 18 years and are encouraged through dance to express themselves, increase their confidence and self-esteem, work on their fitness, strength, flexibility and learn some basic dance techniques. They make lots of new friends too but above all we fun. Any exercise no matter how old we are needs to be new and exciting, otherwise we don’t continue doing it. With any learning we know as teachers it needs to be consistent and enjoyable.
All our clubs are inclusive of students with challenges and disabilities. We have found that they too experience so much pleasure in simply participating in the exercises and routines. These students always excel when they are given the opportunity to shine on stage.
Our productions/performances are photographed and videoed for this exact reason so the memories we make are kept forever.
Over the years Feet & Beat Dance classes have also developed into a fun, low impact Dance Fitness Program for teenagers and all adults. All the choreography is unique to my own creativity and this is one aspect of my training I still really love. Match this choreography with a great mix of music from the decades and various dance genres we happily merengue, salsa, disco and jive our way through various classes every week.
Due to Covid-19 this has created a very popular ‘Online Feet & Beat Dance Community ‘with ladies Zooming in from around the world.
